Our top 5 trends in fitted kitchen cabinets

When you think of buying fitted kitchen cabinets, don’t imagine you have to replace like for like in your kitchen renovation. Gone are the days where you choose from a range of five or six wall and floor unit styles, or dare we say replacement doors. Today we maximise your choice – with 16,000 different kitchen cabinet combinations!

Too much choice? Well, there are some trends that may inspire you. Here are our top 5 trends in fitted kitchen cabinets to get you thinking.

1. Colour your kitchen cabinets

We’ve seen the trend for kitchen cabinet colour change in as little as 12 months. Our customers either want a colour that will make a statement about now, or that reflects a timeless fitted kitchen.

In 2020 we were looking at crisp and cool greys and blues. In 2021 this moved a little towards warmer shades that complement natural wood and stone. In truth these are still incredibly popular, because of their timeless nature.

In 2022 we have seen a compromise of these two shades, with light blue coming to the fore. This reflects the Dulux colour of the year (Blue Skies) and the more violet Pantone colour of 2022, Very Peri – which complements Eggshell Blue beautifully.

What about 2023? We supply British-made Masterclass kitchens and their development teams are always ahead of the curve. Did you know we offer 40 different colours?

And if that doesn’t impress you we can offer 11 colours for the cabinet carcasses themselves!

2. Kitchen cabinet door styles

So there are 270 different kitchen cabinet door styles in our range. So you have plenty of choice! But what is on trend right now? This does depend on your home, but there are two routes our customers tend to take.

Firstly, there’s the contemporary look with handless or recessed handle kitchens. They help to give the impression of space, with sleek lines and discrete doors that are modern and inventive.

Then there’s the more traditional style. Going with a Shaker kitchen has always been and remains hugely popular. But don’t be fooled. The traditional look hides a huge amount of innovation, so you really get the best of both worlds.

3. Add the finishing touch to complement your kitchen cabinets

Our customers have discerning tastes! Choosing a kitchen cabinet style is not enough and they like to accentuate the style of their kitchen with a complementary finishing touch.

There’s not much in it but the most popular is a wood finish – followed by metallic finishes.

Our wood effect options make a beautiful, natural enhancement to any kitchen – perfect for open shelving and to add warmth to a kitchen. This is especially true if your kitchen is integrated or extends into your living spaces. The wooden accents are beautiful pieces of furniture in their own right.

To add some glamour you could opt for metallic finishes, which have become increasingly popular. Add the metallic finish to splashbacks, doors, plinths and handle rails for a contemporary look.

4. The perfect storage solutions for any size kitchen

They say space is the final frontier – and if space is important to you then we have some clever storage solutions. But which are the most in-demand?

Well without doubt it’s the floor to ceiling pantry and larder options that our customers want. While wall cupboards are popular – if not essential – the ability to hide away your food products in a pantry is a must-have, space allowing. With widths from 400mm to 1200mm a pantry can fit in an existing space, integrate with your units and even maximise a corner space. You can also have pull-out larders and larder drawers for optimum practicality. Covid has also changed people’s buying habits, and we tend to do one large shop rather than smaller shops – which makes the large pantry the perfect option for storage.

You could go one step further and have an integrated cocktail cabinet for the ultimate wow!

But don’t worry if you don’t have space for big storage solutions. Masterclass have increased storage potential by up to 30% with their new cabinet design, so greater space is already built in to our kitchens.

5. Recycling solutions hidden in the kitchen cabinet?

For the environmentally conscious consumer storage for recycling (and waste) is a must-have. With local authorities pushing us to recycle more, that means your discarded paper, bottles, packets and tins need to be kept somewhere – and practical solutions are our thing!

Having recycling storage in a kitchen cabinet allows you to free up floor space and ditch the kitchen ‘bin’ – hiding away up to 60kg of household waste! It’s not just on-trend – it’s sensible. No wonder most customers are opting for recycling solutions in their kitchen designs.
